BrainstormingBrainstorming isn’t just another buzzword, it is a common technique used by entrepreneurs working in a team to generate new business ideas. All you need to ‘brainstorm’ is your team members, a pen and some paper. Give yourself around 10 minutes to brainstorm and set yourself a question to answer e.g. to come up with an innovative business idea, product or service that uses software / ICT in a new way.
Each team member must shout out their ideas as and when they enter their head while one person writes them out on your paper so that everyone can see. There must be ABSOLUTELY NO CRITICISING OF IDEAS. No matter how 'silly' an idea is, it must be written down. Laughing is to be encouraged. Criticism is not. Why? Because you want to encourage the free flow of ideas and as soon as participants of the brainstorming session begin to fear criticism of their ideas, they'll stop generating ideas. Moreover, Ideas that first seem silly may prove to be very good or may lead to ideas that are very good. Once your time is up, select the five ideas which you like best. Make sure everyone involved in the brainstorming session is in agreement. Write down about five criteria for judging which ideas you think have the most potential. Criteria should start with the word "should", for example, "it should be cost effective", "it should use technology in a unique way", "it should be appealing to a large variety of consumers", etc. Give each idea a score of 0 to 5 points depending on how well it meets each criterion. Once all of the ideas have been scored for each criterion, add up the scores.
The idea with the highest score should be your idea for entry into the ICT Youth Challenge competition. But remember, if you think you have more than one good idea then submit them as well because ICT Youth Challenge teams can enter more than one competition entry!              Home Page | Invitation to Play | Sponsors | Prizes | Rules | Links |
