The Hot House Big Ideas Youth Challenge 2011- Rules and Regulations
The following rules and regulations are purely indicative, should any changes occur participating teams will be notified.
- The Big Ideas Youth Challenge is open to persons permanently resident in the North East of England area aged up to and including 19 years old (if you are under 13 years of age and are thinking of entering the competition please email info@bigideasyouthchallenge.co.uk first for further information).
- Each team must consist of 3 or 4 team members. Persons may drop out of a team and new persons added, so long as the total number remains within these limits. However, at least two original members must always remain in a team until before the Forum stage of the competition thereafter no changes will be permitted.
- The judging panel will consist of relevant ICT, software and business development experts and the panel's decision will be final.
- The clear intent is that applicants retain full ownership of your idea, and advice will be available on issues such as intellectual property rights and patenting. Should an idea be developed further the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) and organisers will ensure, wherever possible, that steps are taken to protect the idea. Any third party individual or organisation that your team comes into contact with throughout the competition lifecycle will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
- Teams refusing to participate in Hot House activities may result in disqualification. This decision will be made at the discretion of the judges.
- Mentors must abide by the mentor agreement and failure to comply will result in the team having to find a new mentor. In extreme circumstances it may result in disqualification.
- Persons under 18 participating in the Big Ideas Youth Challenge must have written consent from a parent/guardian before their application will be considered. On approval of successful applications, each team will be asked to produce a 3-minute presentation on their idea. The presentation should be submitted at least one week before the First Pitch.
- Progression to subsequent stages after the Seed Idea will require the full team and adult contact to be available to attend throughout.
- All applications containing personal details will be held in confidence by the organisers and developers of the Big Ideas Youth Challenge. This information will not be shared. In future we may contact you regarding other Big Ideas Youth Challenge related initiatives. To opt out email info@bigideasyouthchallenge.co.uk
- Teams are free to submit as many ideas as they wish at the SEED IDEA stage of the competition and the judges will select the best idea to progress. A maximum of two ideas per team will be allowed to progress to the First Pitch stage and thereafter only one.
- The competition management team reserves the right to change the competition format and rules at any time without prior notification.
- Teams entering the competition will be expected to participate in promotional activity. All such publicity must be coordinated with the organisers of the competition.
